The Mowsley Parish Meeting
Who we are & what we do
A parish meeting is unlike a parish council in that there are no elected councillors just an elected Chairman and district council representative or Councillor. These two form the corporate body of the meeting. The parishioners on the parish electoral roll, are in a sense councillors (not elected of course) in that they may attend parish meetings and vote on matters raised. Volunteer parishioners may be used to form sub-committees and report back to the Parish Meeting.
In Mowsley we have a Planning Sub-committee of eight parishioners who comment on planning applications so a more democratic view is given. Some have a planning background, others have educated themselves re planning matters and others give a logical, common sense view.
Your Parish Meeting is the first point of contact for a whole range of services that the community receives and provides like waste collections, policing, road and footpath maintenance, play areas, burial grounds and parish premises.
The Parish Meeting precepts each year from parishioners' council tax payments to cover mainly maintenance costs.
Mowsley Parish Meeting works closely with Harborough District Council and Leicestershire County Council and consults with the Leicestershire and Rutland Association of Local Councils for advice.
The following people work for Mowsley Parish meeting.
Please, however , remember that as any Mowsley Parishioner on the electoral roll has a vote on matters discussed when they attend parish meetings. It is always very pleasing when any of these 'councillors' volunteers to research a matter or take on a task for the good of the parish.
